Our Members

Members ensure that the vision and values of the Trust are upheld. They are tasked with assessing if the Trustees are performing well by ensuring that the purpose of the Trust is being met, and its charitable objects are being fulfilled.

A Member may not be an employee of the Trust.

Member - Mr Clifford Hampton BA FCA

Cliff had a distinguished career in the City of London as a partner in Spicer & Pegler, Chartered Accountants, Chaired two Lloyd’s Underwriting Agencies and was Chairman of two Investment Banking businesses.

He has had a long involvement with the Education sector at The Godolphin & Latymer School, where he held several roles on the Governing Body over 23 years, including five years as Chairman of Governors and four years as Chairman of the school’s Bursary Fund.

Currently, he is Chairman of Opportunity International UK, a micro-finance charity which supports over 14,000 schools mainly in Africa and India. He is a former Chairman and Director of the Global Board of the Charity.

Cliff is a keen fisherman and plays golf and croquet. He is a supporter of The Philharmonia Orchestra and Garsington Opera.

Member - Liz Landy

Liz has thoroughly enjoyed 40 years of professional work in the broadcasting and media research world. Whilst often stressful and always fast paced she has been lucky to work with many highly talented and inspiring people.

Liz is entrepreneurial at heart and at her best when thinking strategically, building new business and managing relationships. Crucial to her success has been recruiting, developing and managing top talent.

She enjoys working in a highly collaborative way and is an active listener.  She has chaired senior management boards as well as sensitively managing and integrating acquisitions. She has many years' experience of financial management and of business reporting to corporate boards,

Member - Christopher Smyth

Christopher Smyth is an Old Borlasian, where in his last year he was Head Boy,
Captain of Boats, and Captain of Rugby.  After leaving school he went up to Clare College Cambridge where he read Mechanical Sciences and continued his sporting interests in rowing and rugby. He was also a member of the Clare Chapel Choir.

After graduation, Chris had a career in engineering, working for some years in large
engineering groups, including GEC plc, and later for private engineering companies.
He became a Chartered Engineer and gained considerable commercial and
management experience at Managing Director and Chairman levels. He undertook
extensive foreign travel in the course of his work.

For some years Chris was Chairman of the Governors of Burnham Grammar School.
He is currently a Trustee of The Pallant Charitable Trust. He is married to Diane, a
retired doctor who became a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at St Mary’s
Hospital, Paddington. Chris lives in Cookham Dean, has three children and now
enjoys the pleasures of three grandchildren.

Member - Lord Young of Cookham

George Young was a Member of Parliament from 1974 to 2015, serving in the Governments of Margaret Thatcher, John Major, David Cameron and Theresa May. His posts included Secretary of State for Transport, Government Chief Whip and Leader of the House of Commons. He was made a Companion of Honour in 2012, and created a Life Peer in 2015.

His family have lived in Cookham for 250 years, and his children attended Holy Trinity Primary School, Cookham and Furze Platt Comprehensive School in Maidenhead. He has been a School Governor in Lambeth and Ealing, and his wife, Aurelia, was Chair of Governors at Cookham Nursery.
